We've been enamoured with the variety Encruzado since we tried this producer (if it existed in Australia, Unico Zelo would be making it!). This is the wine to try to see what we see in it. Fleshy white stone fruit, lemon zest and custard apple jump out immediately in this pristine nose. Texturally, this thing is sublime, and utterly infatuating. Waxy, creamy, everything we love about good textural white wines, but a crisp, mineral acidity cuts through it all beautiful. That orchard fruit freshness continues well and truly on the 'buds. Oak is here, but not overwhelming. Just an outrageously good wine here. Get Encruzado affiliated.
Encruzado, also known as Salgueirinho, is an endemic grape variety from the Dão region. Cultivated in the sheltered highlands of Taboadella’s vineyard, in granites that have metamorphosed over hundreds of thousands of years, this lot of wines shares the special care taken with the Encruzado grape variety. The delicate cultivation of the Encruzado vines requires increased attention during the growing season, delivering tremendous rewards - the Taboadella Reserva Encruzado white is firm and exuberant, with a silky texture, linear structure and notable depth. It is a wine of the present and future.

About Tabodella Taboadella is an estate in the Dao, Portugal that dates back as far as the 1st Century, that has been claimed by the Roman Empire, The Knights Templar and many aristoratic families over the millennia. Today it is under the custodianship of the Amorim family, who farm 42 ha of Dao varieties from 30 - 100 years old, such as Encruzado, Jaen (Mencia), Alfrocheiro and Touriga Nacional, managed as bush vines and farmed without irrigation.
