Roter Porphyr is the name given to the soil on which this Spatburgunder is farmed - a mix of Red Quartz and Silicon Rich Granite of volcanic origin. Real dirt nerd stuff. This leads to the most brightly perfumed wine of Johannes' stables, but still packs that classic, black forest cake Spatburgunder punch. Spritely acidity too, along with a nice chewy and firm tannin that wraps it all up in a neat little bow. The devil is in the details here, whilst the wine is absolutely charming to drink, it's got a lot more than meets the eye. It's a wine that when we opened up to taste, we just kept on revisiting to unravel it's secrets. It's probably the dirt. Compelling wine here no doubt.

About Kopp
Johannes Kopp is the 2nd Generation of the Kopp Estate, taking over the family vineyard and winery at just 22 in 2012. Since then, he's grown the vineyard holdings to 32ha and has converted all the vineyards to be Demeter certified bio-dynamic. Johannes and his partner Alina focus their effort on crafting great Spatburgunder, alongside Chardonnay, Weissburgunder and of course Riesling. Through these varieties, they hope to showcase the incredible diversity of soil that occurs in their unique pocket of the world.
Over 45-year-old vines. Quartz porphyries from the Rotliegend gave this wine its name. It is grown on this silicon-rich granite-like rock of volcanic origin.
