A decade ago, we began collaborating with Talc Hill Vineyard in Gumeracha, Peter Godden’s passionate project to produce Australia’s finest Nebbiolo. Interplanted on calcareous clay with 10 different Nebbiolo clones and 5% Barbera, this vineyard has yielded exceptional fruit for our wines. After a decade of hand-picking and careful winemaking, we’re thrilled to release ‘Gumeracha,’ a testament to our commitment and the unique terroir of this remarkable vineyard.
A decade ago, we first got to work with the Talc Hill Vineyard in Gumeracha. It's the vineyard that Peter Godden poured his heart and soul into, with the steadfast aim of producing Australia's best Nebbiolo. We're talking 10 different clones of Nebbiolo, interplanted at 5% to Barbera - on amazing calcareous clay - quite literally, an open-cut talc mine.
In 2012, we were able to prune it back, and each year we've taken the fruit; hand-picking it with our own team. It's graced the original Truffle Hound, Exocarpus, Pastafarian - but in 2022 - the fruit was such a high quality, and in such tiny amounts - we thought it best to keep aside, just to see what extra elevage could achieve.
Achieve, it did. Our first release of 'Gumeracha'. An Australian Nebbiolo we're proud of, and a culmination of a decade of hard work.
