Red. Hot. Value. It's astounding to find Mosel Riesling with this level of complexity at this price in this country. A tad sweeter than Daniels other Rieslings but a far cry dryer than your average Mosel. Fresh lime, white peach, a touch of papaya, and searing acid due to the proximity to the Mosel river. Oxidative handling, lees work and barrel ferment and age give this wine more features to set it apart from it's peers. If you're a Riesling fan, you need this in your fridge.

About Daniel Fries
Daniel is the 8th Generation of the Fries family who farm 8ha of vineyard in the village of Winningen, exclusively hand harvesting and without the use of herbicides. They farm a Riesling in 2 of the Grand Cru appellations of Uhlen and Rottgen, alongside one of the first estates in the Mosel to plant Pinot Noir in 1986.
Steep, rocky vineyards in the lower part of the hillside of my village Winningen, which we are still able to work with a tractor. The soil consists of a mixture of slate and sand, as the rubble from the hillside mixes with the more fertile sedimentary soil in the valley. This richer kind of soil provides a more luscious, succulent style of Riesling yet it shows the spicy minerality that we associate with Riesling from slate.
Winemaking
Handpicked, Sedimentation over night, fermentation with wild yeasts in big German oak barrels and stainless steel (~50/50), 6 months on full lees, bottled in spring 2024. 3.8 g/L Residual Sugar.
