Tasting Through Our Untamed Wines

Tasting Through Our Untamed Wines

We love to create fun and tasty blends that you all love to enjoy - Esoterico anyone? We also love the opportunity to highlight a true expression of site; and that is exactly what makes our Untamed wines so special. All are crafted from a single vineyard, which allows each wine to showcase its unique soils and terroir through unique flavour profiles.

The last of our Untamed wines for 2021 have dropped and our team have put together an easy tasting guide to explore each flavour profile - maybe you'll discover a new favourite! Take a journey through all our single vineyard wines from three distinctly different South Australian wine regions.

Riverland

unico zelo untamed wines riversand fiano, terra cotta greco and halcyon days nero from the Riverland

The Riverland is Australia's largest growing wine region and home to some very exciting alternative varieties. Three of our Untamed Wines are sourced from the heart of the Riverland: Barmera. Both our River Sand Fiano & Halcyon Days Nero d'Avola are from the organic Bassham Vineyard and our latest Untamed addition, our Terra Cotta Greco, hails from Ricca Terra vineyards.

River Sand

This fun Fiano is layered with loads of juicy pineapples, nectarines and lemon zest. Although fruit forward, this white wine has a lovely mineral drive and delightfully oily texture. Sip chilled - by the water - with fish and chips.

Terra Cotta

A textural white full of apricots, brioche and a lick of coconut and almond. The racy acidity of our Greco is kept in tune with a beautiful crystalline tannin structure. Lift your next roast chook or potato bake to new heights.

Halcyon Days

Upfront this Nero is a red fruit party - think strawberry jam, cherry, red liquorice, bramble cocktails and Chambord liqueur. This is all balanced with light tannins for a serious Beaujolais Gamay vibe. Throw on a record, maybe even install a disco ball and let the good times roll with some party snacks.

Clare Valley

unico zelo untamed wines mallee gambit nero and slate farm fiano from clare valley

Located in the northern Mount Lofty Ranges and with a rich array of soils - 11 recognised soil types! - Clare Valley is one of Australia's oldest wine regions. Both of our Clare Valley Untamed wines, Slate Farm Fiano and Mallee Gambit Nero, hail from the Polish Hill River subregion.

Slate Farm

Pine-lime and sherbert lemon flavours are offset in this zippy Fiano by a hint of wet slate - yep, that's where the name comes from - and white peach fuzz. Enjoy alongside Tacos on the beach.

Mallee Gambit

This Nero is a serious combo of shiso leaf (from the mint family), sour cherry and pepper berry. A super fun blend of jube and red skin together with a touch of charcuterie and apple mint. Perfect for your next camping adventure with food cooked over the fire.

Adelaide Hills

unico zelo untamed wines pipe dream nero, pastafarian nebbiolo, alluvium fiano and panda panda off-dry fiano from the adelaide hills

The Adelaide Hills is a relatively young wine growing region with a varied landscape which produces some of South Australia's coolest climate wines. Three of our Untamed Wines - Alluvium Fiano, Panda Panda Off-Dry Fiano and Pipe Dream Nero - are from Mylkappa Vineyards in Birdwood, and our Pastafarian Nebbiolo is from a nearby Gumeracha vineyard, Talc Hill.

Alluvium

This Fiano delivers tingling acidity for days! Ruby grapefruit and guava underpinned by a flinty and gin-and-tonic-like edge. Enjoy chilled with some fresh Sashimi.

Panda Panda

Everything we love about Alluvium with the sweetness dialled up. A silky Fiano with jasmine, honeysuckle, mango and paw paw. Impress your next dinner party guests and pair with a Basque burnt cheesecake for dessert.

Pipe Dream

Perfumed with violets and musk sticks this Nero tastes like black plums and cranberries with a lovely black tea tannin structure and tart finish. Too good to share, save this wine for your next solo date night - perfect with a block of chocolate.

Pastafarian

Blackcurrants with a whiff of cardamom from some silky oak in our Nebbiolo. Ripples of strawberries and crushed black olives over the top of a pitch perfect balance of fresh acidity to fine grain tannins. Delightful with any tomato sauce based Italian dish like pasta and pizza!

Happy tasting and we'd love to hear your own experience with our Untamed wines.
